This is basically an ad, but I don’t care. Jerry Goldsmith is one of the finest composers ever to have existed, and he still doesn’t get even a quarter of the respect he deserves. Thankfully, some people realise this, like film writer Jeff Bond, who has written a ton of liner notes for Goldsmith soundtracks and has now written a two-volume book on the composer called The Jerry Goldsmith Companion.
But don’t listen to me, listen to Jeff:
“This definitive masterwork contains over 900 pages of in-depth history delving into his early works for TV's THE TWILIGHT ZONE and THRILLER to classics like LILLIES OF THE FIELD, THE SAND PEBBLES, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, THE SECRET OF N.I.M.H., GREMLINS, CAPRICORN ONE, LEGEND, and Goldsmith’s Oscar-winning score for THE OMEN and its two sequels.
Every radio show, TV program, film project—and more—will be covered...
Each volume offers a full, chronological account and scholarly study of not only his feature films, but radio and television work—most of the early projects are barely remembered today—along with occasional non-film commissions. These books will appeal to a wide readership ranging from intense devotees and passing enthusiasts of Goldsmith's works to seasoned academics and budding music students.
You’ll experience these timeless scores as never before with remembrances from many of Goldsmith’s most renowned collaborators, including directors Franklin J. Schaffner, Ridley Scott, Richard Donner, Joe Dante, Michael Crichton, Paul Verhoeven, Peter Hyams and Phil Alden Robinson.”
Goldsmith has written some of my favourite music, and it goes from day to day whether my favourite composer is Goldsmith or John Williams, so this is an amazing prospect. The project is on Kickstarter now, so head there at warp speed to support it.

It was Jeff Bond’s writing in FSM that opened my eyes to Jerry Goldsmith. My wife’s favorite score is Planet of the Apes and she happens to share the same birthday with Jerry Goldsmith. I miss him so much!
At the time of tapping on a keyboard the Kickstarter has 919 backers with still 14 days to go... which is much better than some of the movies the subject had to score.
